We accept previously published or unpublished creative nonfiction, flash fiction, poetry, and devotionals. Selected works will be posted on this website and published in upcoming anthologies. 

We are looking for valiant literature from valiant scribes unafraid to tackle hard-hitting issues.

We are also interested in supporting projects and initiatives in line with our topic areas through our philanthropic arm.

Open Call for Submissions | 01

Valiant Scribe calls for submissions that focus on faith and social issues, including sanitation and hygiene, sexual violence, poverty, criminal justice, human trafficking, mental health, unknown inventors, people of color, climate change, etcetera.
 
Submission guidelines:
Creative nonfiction, essays, devotionals, flash fiction, poetry, and photography are welcome.

Submissions can be published or unpublished, 12-point Times New Roman, submissions should not be more than 700 words long. 

Submissions should be in English. Submissions in other languages are also welcome but should be accompanied by an English translation.

Only digital submissions are accepted. Please email a brief cover letter with your name, 100-word third-person bio, and the titles of your submission(s) in a single PDF, doc, or docx file attachment to contactvaliantscribe@gmail.com

Submissions are welcome year-round. Authors will be notified within a month if their submission was selected.

Poetry Competition | 02

Valiant Scribe calls for submissions that focus on war and peace, despair and hope. In a world filled with war, poverty, natural disasters, human rights violations, and other ills, we seek poetry that evokes thoughts of hope, telling us there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

 
Submission guidelines:
Submissions can be published or unpublished; 12-point Times New Roman. Submissions should not be more than five poems. 

Submissions should be in English. Submissions in other languages are also welcome but should be accompanied by an English translation.

Only digital submissions are accepted. Please email a brief cover letter with your name, 100-word third-person bio, and the titles of your submission(s) in a single PDF, doc, or docx file attachment to contactvaliantscribe@gmail.com. 

The closing date for submissions will be 15 August 2021.
Authors will be notified seven weeks after the submission deadline if their submission was selected.

Compensation:
First prize: USD 250, author video interview & featured inclusion in Valiant Scribe's next issue.

Second prize: USD 100, & inclusion in Valiant Scribe's next issue.

Third prize: USD 50, & inclusion in Valiant Scribe's next issue.

The following 30-50 runners-up will be included in the next issue of the journal titled "Vultures & Doves: Social Issues of Our Time" and will receive a free version of the journal.

Des Mannay: Des Mannay is a poet of colour, co-editor of The Angry Manifesto poetry journal, and the winner of the 'rethinkyourmind' poetry competition. Placed 2nd and highly commended in the Disability Arts Cymru poetry Competition. He helped organize a refugee solidarity fundraiser - performing alongside 'Attila the Stockbroker' as part of the 'Arguments Yard' tour. He is also instrumental in setting up 'Poets On The Picket Line - South Wales Chapter'; delivering solidarity stanzas to people on strike.

Jaime Grookett:  Jaime Grookett is an award winning American author and poet. Her work is featured in popular literary magazines and journals and is an adjunct professor teaching writing at Drexel University.  She is an activist writing to bring awareness to social justice issues. Currently, she is working on a short story collection and a poetry collection.

Debra Ayis: Debra Ayis is the founder and editor of Valiant Scribe. She is an award winning poet published in over a hundred anthologies, magazines, journals, and devotionals in several countries. She has also published three books. She currently co-leads a Writers Group in New York, and is a ReclaimToday volunteer contributor.
