Oh, the irony of it

all

The

hege

mony

of a

hierarchy

of sacred

n

omen

clature

The vantage

point

of an abstraction

he

morrh

aging

The cold

labyrinth.

The sad

song of a song

within a mental

rewind.

The slam

med

door

in the nuclear

family

peace

ful

purpose

zone

the loss

The very loss.

But,

For every twilight,

there is a dawn.

For every demon,

there is a prayer.

And God

reigns through it

all.

Mark Hanley is a poet, linguist and musician in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is an alumnus of Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian. Mark has taken private poetry lessons with students from the prestigious Poetry Workshop at the University of Iowa. His poetry is influenced by Gerard Manly Hopkins and others.
