My Eye, a Poem by D Larissa Peters

The world is surging around me … chaos

protests, disasters, crashes and killings

And in the eye of the storm, I’m on the floor

building legos

My 2-year-old architect demands

music, and I play it

I lay on my back, my ears closed

to anything beyond

his clear, middle-C tone voice calling

mamma

D Larissa Peters grew up in Indonesia and has been somewhat of a nomad. After meandering around the East Coast for more than 10 years, she spent the last five years in California and now resides in Texas. Her most recently published poems have appeared in Shadow Dog Press, Gotham Literature and she has a few forthcoming pieces elsewhere.
